ABOUT JEREMY WILSON

M

y name is Jeremy Wilson and I am a track athlete. During my time under the NCAA and USATFCCCA Hall of Fame coaching of Barbara Crousen, I was able to achieve NCAA All-American status with McMurry University in Abilene, Tx. Due to poor decisions off the track I was forced to cut short the sport I have loved so much. Though I could no longer compete, my passion for athletics was never deterred! I found myself attending every local track meet I could. Coach Crousen through her unwavering dedication to never give up on me will never truly realize how she saved the life of a lost soul. McMurry Track and Field, its staff, and Coach Crousen through their tough love have given me something that I can never truly repay which is hope and a second chance. After learning from my mistakes it’s time to give back to my own community what I have gained from Coach Crousen and athletics.

tjm-about

From the beginning, I may not have always been the fastest man on the track but through my faith in God he blessed me with a talent that began to flourish when I was ready. Through relentless prayer, the track was the one place in the world where I felt at peace. I may have failed on my college career, but I sure haven’t quit, nor will I ever! “Never give up, failure and rejection are only the first step to succeeding,” are words from Jim Valvano which have always resonated with me. My message to those out there struggling as well is to never quit no matter the obstacles one is faced with because those are the very moments that will strengthen and define you. Relentlessly pursue your dreams and with the right amount of determination, dedication, and work ethic anything can be accomplished no matter where you started from. Jim Abbott was a one handed pitcher who had every odd stacked against him but flourished in major league baseball for ten years! Abbott once said, “It’s not the disability that defines you; It’s how you deal with the challenges the disability presents you with. We have an obligation to the abilities we DO have, not the disability”. Abbott’s words resonated with me that no matter what curve balls life throws at us, the only thing we can truly be judged by is how we respond to that adversity.

My objective is to spark young men and women with the same passion that has been invoked in me for track and field within my community and hopefully be able to touch someone’s life as my coaches touched mine. Running is such an important aspect to all athletics such as football that I want to show how track and field/cross country can benefit athletes of all sports. Life does not exist with a perfect blueprint of how God’s master plan is going to pan out but no matter what that dream is I encourage you to pursue it with all your might! Gail Devers was a three time Olympic Champion for the USA and preached on keeping your dreams alive. Devers stated, “Understand, to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe”. For all of you that have a goal or a dream, do not stand idly by, GO GET IT!
